IS FRANCE’S GLYPHOSATE EXIT PLAN ON TRACK? A French parliament report, published on [Nov. 13], suggests not. President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to phase out most uses of the controversial herbicide by 2021, and completely ban farmers from using it in 2022, but the parliamentary report suggests glyphosate usage has not been dropping. “There is strong reason to fear that usage has not decreased,” the authors write. “Your rapporteurs wish to share their concerns about the difficulty of the task,” the paper also warns.

GLEXIT: The report was written by a special parliamentary mission which is monitoring the government’s glyphosate exit plan …. But despite their warning that Macron’s pesticide purge seems not to be fully on track, the report’s authors also write that they had severe difficulties getting hold of all the data to inform their report.

The authors said they could not obtain statistics on how much glyphosate was actually used in France last year, from the government or the agricultural sector. “Without being able to monitor the statistics of glyphosate usage, the mission cannot objectively comment on the effects of the strategy put in place by the government,” the report says.
