We only use animals where no other alternatives are available and always use the most appropriate species. In the vast majority of cases, this involves using mice, rats and zebrafish. Sometimes, however, it is necessary to use species that are closer to humans in size or development.
When we do use animals, we always comply with the ‘3Rs’ – aiming to refine our experiments, reduce the number of animals used and, where possible, to replace them with alternatives.
